This view stems from a misinterpretation of funerary practices in eighteenth century Vienna, which I grant you doesn't sound terribly interesting, but it does explain the myth. Guillaume de Machaut (d.1377) is one of the undisputed pinnacle geniuses of Western music, and the most famous composer of the Middle Ages. It was in this house that Mozart wrote all the compositions in his remaining years in Salzburg, before he ultimately relocated to Vienna.

Seated at the grand Steinway piano in the wood-paneled auditorium, Nhu Anh gave a polished performance that was the culmination of a three-day workshop with world-renowned Israeli pianist Yaron Kohlberg. It seems that he was buried in a common grave, following Viennese custom as set forth by Joseph II during his reign.

The opera was "Idomeneo" considered the first of Mozart's great operas. The Moorish presence (roughly 800-1500) gave Spanish music much of its distinctive flavor, bequeathing a legacy of complex Arabic rhythms, microtonic scales, and an ongoing love of the plucked instrument, the vihuela and the guitar. While this may seem counterintuitive, discarding the conductor transforms the atmosphere from an orchestra to a chamber ensemble. His music served as an example for most every Russian composer that came after him.
