Seward not only gives insight about Caravaggio's life, but alsodelves into the events that may have inspired his paintings. The small but controversial output of the French Dada artist Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) exerted a strong influence on the 20th century contemporary art. Both men and women are at fault in the present social dilemma, viz., the necessity to declare oneself female and artist in the same breath. This book revisits Tao’s approach to his readers by attempting to situate it within the particular poetics of address that characterized the Six Dynasties classicist tradition. Art, photography, history, philosophy, psychology, music, drama, literature, folklore, children’s interest... I see my work as being that of a bridge-builder. The anti-Diaspora ideal and the demand for an original Hebrew culture found expression in stylistic primitivism (with affinity to the art of the Near and Far East) and exotic-naïve predilections which were realized in flattening and use of color planes with strong contours (corresponding, to some extent, to the expressionistic tendencies in European art which rejected the art of the museum and sought the roots of art in its primitive sources).

By examining in some detail a single instance of deprivation or disadvantage—the unavailability of nude models to women art students—we have suggested that it was indeed institutionally made impossible for women to achieve artistic excellence, or success, on the same footing as men, no matter what the potency of their so-called talent, or genius.
